Although a port at the English Channel, the city comes alive mostly in winter. At the end of November, with the beginning of the winter holidays, Calais lights up both figuratively and literally.

Calais Christmas Lights

Info: A million bulbs light up the towering festive displays in Calais - a town that’s not shy about celebrating Christmas. The illuminations spread across the whole city centre, spanning all the main shopping streets.

Les Sommets de Noel

Info: Everything kicks off on the last day of November when the mayor turns on the Christmas lights in front of the town hall at 7pm. Visitors can ride a 14-metre high rollercoaster, le Grand Huit, or catch jugglers, clowns and festive fun from the Cique Zavatta (7-9 December).
